5-day Escorted Tour of East Sicily, departing from Palermo

In this escorted tour, you will discover the East Coast of Sicily, visiting numerous cities in the provinces of Catania, Palermo, Agrigento, Messina and Syracuse. Experiencing all the historical and cultural values of Sicily in Agrigento's Valley of the Temples, a charming yet quaint town of Taormina with a spectacular view of the infamous volcanic Mount Etna, a hiking trip up the Mount Etna and villages nearby and excursion to Syracuse, highlighting the Archaeological Park, Greek theatre, LAtomia del Paradiso and the Cave of Dyonisius.

Day 1: Palermo

Arriving at Palermo: indipendent arrival at the hotel (upon request and for an extra cost, it is possible to book a private transfer from the airport to the hotel; contact our customer service for more information). Meeting with the other participants and dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2: Palermo – Agrigento – Taormina

Breakfast buffet at the hotel and then you will depart to the hillside town, Agrigento. The city is known for the magnificent ruins of the Valley of the Temples, a spectacular testimony of the ancient Greek civilization, but there are also several other places of interest worth a visit, among churches, squares and museums.
Famous for the magnificent Valley of the Temples, it is UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sicily. Enjoy a guided tour of the Valley, dating back to the 5th century B. C. The Concordia Temple, which similar in design of the Pantheon in Athens, is one of the most well preserved conditions. During this tour, your guide will walk you through the history and architectures of Temple of Hera, Temple of Concordia, Temple Juno, Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Temple of Heracles.
After visiting the Valley of the Temples, you will resume your travel to Taormina, where you will arrive in the evening. Have also an enjoyable and relaxing dinner at the hotel. Overnight.

Day 3: Taormina – Mount Etna – Taormina – (optional tour to Savoca and Forza D'Agro)

After breakfast at the hotel, take a morning walk tour through the heart of Taormina. Taormina is called the "Pearl of Ionian" for its phenomenal views, prestigious and stylish reputation, a popular destination to historical sites such as the Teatro Greco, Mount Etna, Palazzo Corvaja and Taormina town centre. Upon reaching the Greek/ Roman Amphitheatre, we will take a guided tour of the historical site.
Later, wheater conditions permitting, you will go on an excursion to the volcanic Mount Etna until 1800 meters to visit the Sylvester Craters, where you can enjoy the best views of the Ionian coastline and cities, as we drive through the fertile slopes and villages that sit on the ancient volcanic eruptions.
On your return trip to Taormina, you may take an optional "The Godfather" tour featuring authentic villages such as Savoca and Forza D'Agro that was in most of the "The Godfather" movies. It is a perfect way to explore the untouched and hidden gems of the Sicilian countryside, local lifestyle and culture (optional tour, available on request and with an extra cost to be paid locally). At night you may experience dinner on your own in one of the many colorful restaurants of Taormina.

Day 4: Taormina – Syracuse – Taormina

A breakfast buffet at the hotel, you will go on an excursion to one of the greatest Greek colony in Sicily, Syracuse. You will head towards the Archaeological Park of Neapolis with its Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheatre, Temple of Apollo, the Latormie of Paradise and the Ear of Dionysius. The mythical Syracuse is a must-visit during your tour of Sicily. Located on the southeast coast of the island, Syracuse has a long history: important center of the Byzantine Empire, it became the capital during the 6th century.
Also for this reason, Syracuse is characterized by a great historic heritage, and has been declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005. After a day of touring around Syracuse, have a special Sicilian dinner with wine in a restaurant characteristic of this region. Overnight.

Day 5: Taormina – Catania

Buffet breakfast at your hotel and end of the tour. Upon request and for an extra cost, it is possible to book a private transfer from the hotel to Catania airport; contact our customer service for more information.
